An Easy Way to Replacing Your Motherboard CMOS Battery
Every computer has a battery to keep time whenever the computer is off, alike a watch or several alarm clocks. It’s called as CMOS ( Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor), similar to a watch, if the battery low on power, it needs to be replaced. You can buy these batteries in most electrical stores or computer specialty shops. For most people, the computer becomes sluggish long before we require to replace the battery, but recent technology lets us to keep our systems longer and longer by changing out components.
When I Need to Replace It
You might need to replace your CMOS battery if the clock on your computer isn’t accurate anymore whenever you boot or if your settings on BIOS is back to the default. In case replacing the battery, may all your BIOS’s settings will be lose, unless if you be able to replace the battery quick enough, your settings might not lose. It’s recommended to get into the BIOS settings and write down every special settings.
Before began, please make sure your PC is unplugged, and putting on an antistatic wrist strap, it will much help you prevent damaging your boards. Then, unplug the side panel so you have access to the mainboard.
- Write down note if you can’t access the battery directly and should to remove cables. Write down the connection of every cable for make sure nothing goes wrong after it’s done. Don’t remove anything from the mainboard unless really necessary.
- Typically, the battery is just held in place by several thin clamps that can be softly move aside or raised enough to make the battery out. Don’t BREAK THE CLAMPS
- After the replacement has done, restore cables, and close the side panel and boot the computer. Getting back into your BIOS and restore your special settings, if needed.
Discharge the CMOS
It’s sometimes essential to discharge your CMOS. You can done its by change the jumpers on the motherboard, typically close the CMOS battery. To clear the CMOS memory, please ensure the power is off and switch the jumper to pins 2 and 3. And after few seconds, you can return the jumper to pins 1-2. That is really easy? is it..??
