Touchscreen Cash Register Kiosk

If you think that Intel is only about processors, then you have to take a look at this Touchscreen Cash Register, and change your perceptions. Despite it looks like a Star Trek prop, but it capable of replacing the old CRT displays with green-tinted screens that are still used as the check out point in lots of stores.

The kiosk tries to offer the best features of online shopping, like recommendations, history and self-checkout to retail stores. Whenever you swipe a card or slides your purchase across the horizontal screen, the monitor will display the price and payment options –which include the choice to pay by cellphone. The kiosk also makes recommendations on what else you could purchase and provides you a quick snapshot of it.

The entire kiosk is running Intel’s Core2Duo processors and it uses a solid state drive to make the overall system run faster and spend less power than existing registers.

The overall looks is pretty neat, particularly when you compare it to a number of self-check out counters at most stores. The main drawback will likely be that it looks too huge and ostentatious at the moment, Hopefully Intel will not have too much problem to bring it down to a smaller and comfortable size.
