The Easy Way Modify Windows Default Startup and Shutdown Sounds
I really dislike my default Windows startup and shutdown sounds, they’re only plain loud and annoying! Are you hate with your windows startup sound? If so, you and I need to change our windows startup sound immediately. Well, many computer enthusiast might be interested in changing or even disabling their windows sounds, so do I. I have changed mine a long time ago and I like it.
Changing default Windows is quite interesting, even, we’re able to change other sounds in Windows, like the empty recycle bin sound, the new hardware insert sound, and many more! We can take our favorite song to default Windows sound.
So how to do it?
- Keep sound files size small
In order to keep “good” start up and shutdown process as well, you need to save your sound file to be WAV format to keep the size small, less than 500KB if possible. You can use JetAudio to convert your audio files into WAV format. To keep the size small, you could also cut out only the portion of song you want. You can use a mp3 cutter program to chop up the music. -
Rename These Files
Now, you should rename your song to “Windows XP Startup.wav” and for shutdown sounds rename it to “Windows XP Shutdown.wav” Actually, there are assorted sounds that you can modify, all windows sounds are placed on C:\WINDOWS\Media. - Replace Original Files
Then, getting into C:\Windows\Media and replace files with label Windows XP Startup.wav and Windows XP Shutdown.wav with your new startup and shutdown Windows sounds. However, you may need to move the original files to another folder as your backup files. This is just in case your new WAV files you created don’t work properly and you want to revert to the original. - Restart Your Computer!
Once the renamed files has stored on C:\Windows\Media folder, you should restart your computer to take effect. You must now hear the new sounds play rather than the default sound.
If you hate other default Windows sounds, you’re able to replace them also in the same method. Just make a sound file and rename it same as the one in the Media folder and after that replace the original with the new one.
It’s absolutely simple and easy to change the Windows startup and shutdown sounds, Also, it’s safety and will not “mess up” your computer.
